Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a local customer sees, before your website and before your Facebook page. Work through this list once, then check it every few months.
The basics
- Use your real business name. Don't add keywords like "Best Plumber Sunshine Coast" to the name. It breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended.
- Pick the right primary category. It matters more than almost anything else. Choose the one that describes your main service.
- Service area or address. If customers don't come to you, hide your home address and list the suburbs you cover instead.
- Phone number and hours. Keep them up to date, including public holidays.
- Website link. Link to your website so customers can find out more.
Make it convincing
- Description. Say what you do, who for and where, in plain words. The first couple of sentences matter most.
- Services. Add each service with a short description.
- Real photos. Your team, your vehicles, your work. Google favours real photos over stock images.
Keep it active
- Ask every happy customer for a review. A short text with your review link right after a job works well.
- Reply to every review, good and bad. Keep replies short and friendly.
- Post updates every week or two: a recent job, a seasonal tip, an offer.
Keep your details consistent
Your business name, phone number and area should be written the same way on your profile, your website and any directories you're listed in. Small differences make it harder for Google to be sure they're all the same business.
