Plenty of tradies on the Sunshine Coast get steady work from their Google Business Profile and word of mouth, and wonder whether a website is worth it. It's a fair question. Here is how the pieces fit together.
What your Google Business Profile does well
When someone searches "electrician near me" or "plumber Buderim", the map results come from Google Business Profiles. Reviews, photos and your phone number are right there. If you don't have a profile, set one up today. It's free.
Where it falls short
- Limited space. A short description and a list of services. Not much room to explain what makes you different.
- Competitors right beside you. Your profile is shown in a list with everyone else.
- You don't fully control it. Google can change how it works, and profiles do sometimes get suspended by mistake.
What about Facebook?
Facebook is useful for showing recent jobs and staying in touch with past customers. But the algorithm decides who sees your posts, and many people looking for a tradie never open Facebook to search.
What a website adds
- A page for each service you offer, so you can be found for the work you want more of.
- The suburbs you cover, explained properly.
- Photos of real jobs, your licence and insurance details.
- A quote form that works at 10pm while you're asleep.
- A place you own, that no platform can switch off.
They work best together
Your Google profile links to your website, and your website backs up what your profile says. Google sees a business with consistent details in more than one place, and customers who click through get the full picture before they call.
What a tradie website needs at a minimum
- Click to call on every page
- A clear list of services and suburbs
- Real photos and a link to your reviews
- A simple quote request form
- Fast loading on a phone
